What brick size is assumed?

Standard 228 × 114 × 76 mm bricks with a 10 mm mortar joint. Local brick sizes vary, so adjust expectations accordingly.

Are door and window openings deducted?

Not automatically. If openings cover more than about 10% of the wall face, subtract their area from length × height before calculating.

Why does mortar use a 1.33 dry factor?

Wet mortar volume expands about 33% when expressed as dry cement plus sand, so the calculator multiplies by 1.33 before splitting by the mix ratio.
